Annie Wohlgemuth
Ponte Vedra senior Annie Wohlgemuth is the All-First Coast girls swimmer of the year, shown in portrait, Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 at Planet Swim in Ponte Vedra. Wohlgemuth is a state champion and earned All-American honors by winning the 100-yard backstroke and also helped the team to two relay titles as PVHS won the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A girls team championship. She has committed to swim at the University of Georgia. "At around 7-8 years old, I had loose joints and so my knees and shoulders would pop out of place just doing everyday activities so I had to go to physical therapy, a lot, to try and strengthen my joints. And then, the orthopedic (doctor) actually told my mom that I could join a low-impact sport and it would help strengthen them. As soon as I started swimming my joints stopped popping out, I had no more issues, so swimming kind of healed me in a way," Wohlgemuth said. "Well, then I started to get kinda good, I was, 'Oh, maybe I'll kinda be good at this,' and then we switched swim clubs and my coach was like, 'You have some talent.' And I stuck with it, and it kinda took me to where I am today." (Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union)
